Is my information confidential?
Any information you discuss with your therapist is confidential. The privacy of your information is of utmost importance to us. There are some limits to confidentiality and in these circumstances your therapist can share information that you have provided with the appropriate parties, without your consent. These circumstances are as follows:
Your therapist is legally obliged to share information with a third party when he/she has concerns that you are at risk of seriously harming yourself or someone else.
Your therapist is legally obliged to report actual or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect for anyone under the age of 16 to Children’s Aid. Your therapist may also choose to report such cases for children that are 16 or 17 years of age.
Your therapist is legally obliged to report sexual abuse by a regulated health care professional (to the regulating body of that professional).
Your therapist is obliged to comply with provincial and federal legal requests/subpoenas for client information.
Your therapist may be engaged in receiving supervision. The supervision process may be in the form of peer consultation or individually with one other senior therapist. During these conversations, details of counselling will be shared respectfully. This supervision is an important process in order for therapists to obtain feedback, and provide the best possible service to their clients. Your therapist will provide details of the supervision that they are engaged in upon request.
Who has access to my information?
Your clinical record is stored and managed by Wild Sage Therapy. Therefore, administrative staff, employees and other therapists may come into contact with your personal and health information. We limit access so that administrative staff, employees and other therapists only view what is necessary related to their work.
