What does the phone/video consultation involve?
The 15 minute phone or video consultation gives your therapist the opportunity to answer any questions you have, and to determine if you’d be a good fit for each other. You will chat briefly about what challenges you’re facing right now, and your therapist will tell you more about how they can help.
We also get that it can be tough to take the first step and contact a therapist. We find that having this quick intro helps ease any anxiety around the therapy process and gives you a chance to get to know your therapist a bit better. Please keep in mind that we’re ALWAYS excited to chat with you!
Do I need to prepare anything for my first session?
Once your online therapy session is booked, you’ll be sent a link to fill out our intake form. It’s simple to follow, and doesn’t require any printing or scanning, but you’re always welcome to contact your therapist with any questions you might have!
It can also be helpful to reflect on what you hope to achieve while working with your therapist. This helps your therapist guide sessions in a way that best helps you achieve your goals. If you’re not sure, that’s okay too! You and your therapist can figure it out together.
What’s the difference between talking to a therapist versus my friends or family?
Friends and family can be great supporters and are so helpful in times of need!
The difference between seeing a therapist and talking to your loved ones is that your time with your therapist goes beyond emotional support. In therapy, we work towards your goals and making positive, lasting changes in your life. Your therapist will also offer expertise and a non-biased perspective regarding the challenges you’re facing, with the time and space dedicated SOLELY to you and your needs. You have the freedom to explore your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment, repercussions, or placing strain on your relationships.
How often do I need to attend therapy?
In our experience, we’ve found that keeping your therapy sessions consistent yields the best results, and so we recommend attending a session either weekly or bi-weekly at the start of therapy. As treatment progresses, you can space your sessions out further or attend as needed.
With that being said...everyone has different needs, insurance coverage, and schedules, and so it is completely up to you and what you think would be best!
How long should I attend therapy?
The length of therapy can vary depending on a number of different factors (goals, symptoms, history, etc.). Your therapist will check in with you regularly to make sure you’re always progressing in the right direction. It’s our priority to help you meet your needs and feel better as soon as possible. Many clients we work with start to see results between sessions 4-6, but this can also vary widely.
Do I need a referral from my Doctor?
In short, nope! A referral from your Doctor isn’t needed.
